An eagle-eyed janitor helped police nab two suspects in a break and enter at a lower-city apartment building this week.

Around 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 4, police were called to a break and enter in progress at a Pearl Street South apartment building. The building’s janitor heard loud noises in the locker area. He saw two men he didn’t recognize, and who didn’t live in the building, police say.

Officers sealed off the building’s exterior doors. One suspect tried to run out of a door, police say, but “ran into the arms of an awaiting officer.” The second suspect was also arrested when he tried to leave the building.

Stolen property included an air conditioner, a mountain bike and some clothes.

Two Hamilton men were arrested and released on a promise to appear in court. They’re charged with break and enter and possession under $5,000.
