A Hamilton mountain resident woke up to find an unidentified man standing in her bedroom early Tuesday morning.

Hamilton Police said in a release that a woman, who was home alone in the Garth Street and Rymal Road West area, woke up around 4:00 a.m. and startled, asked the man what he was doing. The man then grabbed the woman's purse, took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the house on foot.

Police say that the suspect also went through several drawers in the home, scattering the items and had made a failed attempt to take the resident's laptop computer before being discovered.

Police believe that the suspect entered the home through an unlocked sliding door at the rear of the house.

The suspect is described as male, 5'10 with a thin build and wearing a dark hoodie.
