Hamilton weather, traffic and more: Daystarter Friday

The weather wake-up call today comes with some "TGIF" sunshine. It’s bright and 11 C this morning. Expect a beautiful day with a high of 26 C leading into another summer weekend that may see a few showers Saturday afternoon.

If you want to get gas this morning, the cheapest price in the area is 129.9 at the Costco at 100 Legend Court near Golf Links Road in Ancaster.

GO Transit is reporting a six-minute delay on west bound and east bound​ Aldershot GO trains. 9:30 a.m.

Expect the usual slowdown heading into Toronto on the bus because of construction on the Gardiner.

Also remember the Toronto-bound lanes of the Burlington skyway will be closed at night this Friday through Sunday.

Traffic will be rerouted over the lift bridge and back onto the QEW. The bridge is closed from 10 p.m. on Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, 11 p.m. on Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday and 10 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday.

  • Hwy 403 east bound at Erin Mills Parkway, Mississauga: Disabled vehicle on the right shoulder. 9:13 a.m.
  • Vehicle collision at Millen Rd. and Highway No. 8. 8:11 a.m. 
  • Vehicle collision on York Boulevard in Hamilton. 7:57 a.m.
  • Hwy 401 west bound collectors ramp to Dixie Rd, Mississauga: Disabled tractor trailer blocking the right lane. 7:13 a.m.
  • Hwy 407 east bound at Britannia Rd, Milton: A large amount of debris on the centre lane​. 7:05 a.m.

Expect sunny skies all day. High 26 C except 21 C near Lake Ontario. UV index 8 or very high.

Tonight expect a few clouds. Low 11 C.

Saturday is expected to be cloudy. 60 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon and evening. Wind becoming southeast 20 km/h in the evening. High 20 C.

This weekend marks the bicentennial of the Bloody Assize of Ancaster. The celebration will include descendants from not just the eight men who were hanged for treason, but their arresting officer as well.

A city department under fire for euthanizing cats and not adopting them out is looking at changing how it operates next year.

Hamilton Animal Services (HAS), which deals with lost or stray animals, doesn’t allow public adoptions, and by law, only has to keep animals for three days before they’re euthanized. But officials say they want to change those methods early in 2015.
