Hamilton’s top doctor has issued a cold weather alert for New Year’s Eve.

Dr. Elizabeth Richardson, Hamilton’s medical officer of health, issues the alert every time the temperature is expected to be below -15 C, or -20 C with wind chill.

The city has notified community agencies who work with vulnerable and homeless people.

If you see someone who needs shelter, call the Salvation Army at 905-527-1444 ext. 0.

Environment Canada is calling for a low of -11 C tonight with winds of up to 60 kilometres an hour.

Tomorrow will be mainly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a high of -9 C, the agency says.
