A new air cargo facility is set to open at Hamilton's Munro international airport in 2015.

The facility will be equipped with multiple trucking docks and specialized handling environments opening up the city to receive new products such as pharmaceutical, biomedical, automobile manufacturing and perishable goods.

The $12 million project is a joint partnership of the federal and Ontario governments and TradePort International Corporation, with support from Hamilton’s municipal government, according to a press release by the Hamilton International Airport.

The new facility will be built on a redeveloped parcel of land with direct airside access. The airport development is part of the Airport Employment Growth District, a city initiative to develop designated lands surrounding the airport for light industrial and commercial activities.

A construction tender is set to be released on the airport website inviting companies to the bidding process.

The project aims to strengthen Hamilton's capabilities as a gateway for international goods.
