Part of James Street North will be closed for five nights as film crews shoot the new RoboCop movie.

The street will be closed from Cannon to Barton from Sept. 24 to Sept. 26, and Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. It will be closed from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. each of those days.

A scene from the new RoboCop movie, whose cast includes Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton, will be shot at the corner of James North and Colbourne Street.

Crews are on scene this month building a fake restaurant, which is where the character Alex Murphy will sustain injuries that lead to him becoming RoboCop.

The street is a popular ambulance route. If paramedics need to get in to the area, they will, said Carmen D'Angelo, professional standards manager for Hamilton EMS.

Otherwise, ambulances will use surrounding streets such as John or MacNab. It should not impede response times, he said.

"We let paramedics know at the start of their shift to avoid the area," he said. "Given that it's from Barton to Cannon, we'll work around it."

Buses will be detoured via John Street. Route 2 buses inbound to downtown will be detoured via Barton, John, Cannon and James.

Route 4 buses inbound to downtown will be detoured via James, Murray, John, Cannon and James.

The outbound routing for both routes is not affected by the closure.
