A Stoney Creek has man learned the hard way that a Pontiac Sunfire and a pile of garbage bags isn’t an ideal way to transport dozens of marijuana plants.

Around 9 p.m. Tuesday, police stopped a Sunfire in the area of Burlington Street and Wellington Street North. The car had no plates and the driver’s license was suspended, police say.

As the officers were arresting the man, they could smell alcohol coming from inside the car, police say. But instead of booze, they found 138 small pot plants packed in garbage bags in the backseat of the car.

A 47-year-old Stoney Creek man was arrested on a promise to appear with a charge of possession of marijuana over 30 grams. He was also served a summons for unauthorized plates and driving without insurance and a license.
