Hamilton distraction theft suspects

Man and woman suspected of stealing bank cards and obtaining PINS. (Hamilton Police)

Hamilton Police are investigating a number of what they call distraction thefts that have taken place in Hamilton over the last month.

The suspected thieves are a man and woman. They are believed to obtain PIN numbers by standing closely to people who are paying by card, and once they have seen the PIN entered they will distract the card user and take the card without the owner noticing.

After, the thieves will withdraw cash from bank machines.

Hamilton Police recommend card user be vigilant when paying by card, shielding their PIN when paying by card, never writing their PIN down, using different PINs for different cards, and never leaving their wallet unattended.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective McNaughton at 905-546-2917 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
