Two men in their twenties picked up impaired driving charges after being pulled over by police early Thursday morning.

At around 2:30 a.m., a 23-year-old man drove up to a RIDE checkpoint on Upper James Street in Hamilton. Police said he showed signs of intoxication and later charged him with impaired driving.

About an hour later, an officer spotted a car speeding along Cannon Street. The vehicle was pulled over near the intersection Queen Street North and Market.

Police said the driver, a 27-year-old Hamilton man, appeared intoxicated. He was charged with impaired driving.

Both men were released from custody later on Thursday morning.
