Hamilton Police made five impaired driving arrests Thursday evening, none related to scheduled RIDE checks.

"Yes, it is a lot [for one evening]," said Sgt. Claus Wagner, Hamilton Police acting media relations officer.

Wagner said there were active RIDE checks Thursday evening, but it wasn't RIDE officers who caught these drivers. Those officers made 1460 checks over the course of the evening, he said.

The incidents took place in Hamilton and Dundas between the hours of 7 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. Three drivers were found to have twice the legal limit of alcohol in their system.

The arrested drivers were all male between the ages of 28- and 56-years old. The five men were charged with impaired driving or impaired control and care and Over 80 mg.

Wagner said regular RIDE checks will continue throughout the weekend.
