Hamilton police and fire crews investigating hazardous material incident
Houghton Avenue by Main Street East and Dunsmore Road is closed
A Hamilton man is dead after an incident involving hazardous materials.
Hamilton Police arrived at a home on Houghton Avenue North shortly after 9:30 Monday morning, in response to reports of a man inside a vehicle needing medical attention.
When emergency crews arrived, they determined the victim was deceased. Hazardous materials were seen in the car and the fire department's hazardous materials unit was called to the scene. The street was then closed to the public. No criminal foul play is suspected.
Police and emergency crews notified surrounding homes to remain inside as a safety precaution. Staff and students at nearby Delta Secondary School were notified of the situation, but were not instructed to take any action.
Houghton Avenue is still closed as the investigation is still underway. Police say the materials in question have not yet been identified.
