A Hamilton police officer is charged with assaulting a 16-year-old boy this summer.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has investigated Const. Ryan Gagnon, who now faces one charge of assault causing bodily harm in a July incident where the boy's tooth was broken and his face was injured.
The charge was announced by SIU director Ian Scott on Wednesday afternoon.
On the afternoon of July 22, the teen was arrested, taken to the police station and put in a cell, the SIU said in a release. After "an interaction in the cell between the male and an officer," the boy was treated at Hamilton General Hospital.
The officer will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Hamilton on Nov. 6.
