Police arrested a 19-year-old Hamilton man Thursday evening after he allegedly coerced a friend into attempting to cash fraudulant cheques on his behalf.

Around 8 p.m., police say the man asked his friend, an 18-year-old Hamilton woman, to attempt to cash some cheques for him at a bank on King St. E. near Rosedale Ave.

Police say he told the woman that he couldn't cash them himself as didn't have his own account.

The woman attempted to cash the cheques, but the teller informed her they were fake and called the police.

When police arrived, they arrested a man in a car outside the bank. He was charged with three counts of uttering forged documents.
