Police have charged a Hamilton man with failing to provide the necessities of life for his elderly mother.
A 82-year-old woman showing “serious medical concerns and signs of neglect” was admitted to hospital on Saturday, police said in the statement.
The Hamilton police’s Crimes Against Seniors unit determined that her son was responsible for her care.
Officers took a 57-year-old Hamilton man into custody and held him for a bail hearing.
Investigators are not releasing the victim’s name to shield the victim's identity.
Police spokesman Det. Mike Page wouldn’t comment on how the woman was neglected.
However, he said that, in general, not taking dependent seniors to medical appointments, not bathing them, and failing to give them prescribed medication or proper nourishment all constitute forms of elder neglect.
