A Hamilton man posed as an agent for a fictitious modelling company, trying to extort racy pictures from a female victim, police say.
Officers from the Norfolk County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police arrested a 22-year-old Hamiltonian in the case on Monday following an investigation that started in June.
The suspect has been charged with extortion, criminal harassment and identity fraud.
Const. Ed Sanchuk, a spokesperson for the OPP's Norfolk detachment, said he didn't know how the victim and the suspect got in contact. However, he said they weren't likely known to each other before the scam took place.
Sanchuk said he's not sure whether there were other victims.
"We do have concerns and we're wondering how many other complainants might out there," he said.
"If people think they've had contact with a male who's posing as a modelling agent, we're asking them to call their local police service."
