Hamilton man charged in break-ins at Windsor yacht club
Suspects used van registered to a Hamilton woman, police say
A 28-year-old Hamilton man faces multiple charges after three people were allegedly caught stealing property from boats moored at a yacht club in Windsor.
Local police received a call around 10:30 p.m. Monday about trespassers stealing property from several boats at the Windsor Yacht Club and loading the loot into a van located in the parking lot.
“As police pulled into the lot, they came across a male carrying a cooler towards the suspect vehicle,” Windsor police said in a Tuesday statement. “Officers could see that there was a quantity of suspected stolen property inside the van.”
Using the canine unit, officers tracked down two additional suspects who were hiding in boats.
Three people were arrested in the thefts, including a 28-year-old Hamilton man, a 21-year-old Windsor man and a 17-year-old male, also of Windsor.
They were each charged with break and enter, possession of stolen property and mischief.
The getaway vehicle, a 2006 Chevy Uplander, was registered to a Hamilton woman, police said.
At least one boat was damaged during the thefts.
