After a colder-than-average Christmas Day, we are ready for some slightly warmer temperatures on Boxing Day. Expect a high of –3 C. Here's the news, weather and closures you need to know today.

Happy Boxing Day! Lime Ridge Mall is open for a full 12 hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jackson Square is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

An online poll by CBC Hamilton shows that almost half of the our readers will use Boxing Day as a day to rest, while more than 20 per cent of them plan to visit family and friends. Only a handful of people will be up early fighting for the best deals.

Statutory holiday closures are scheduled for many other places. LCBO stores and Beer Stores are closed. Hamilton public libraries and Hamilton Farmers Market are also closed. Some banks are open. Check your branches for hours.

Thinking about recycling the wrapping paper and the gift packaging that are littering the floors? You might have to wait a bit longer. There was no garbage, green bin or recycling pickup on Christmas Day. If you normally have pickups on Wednesday, you will have pickup on Thursday this week and next week instead. If you have pickups on Thursday and Friday, they will also be delayed by one day.

It's warming up after a colder-than-average Christmas Day, with a high of –3 C and a low of –6 C. Light snow from last night will continue today ending in the afternoon. Later today, expect a mix of sun and cloud with 40 per cent chance of light snow of 2 to 4 centimetres.

Forecast calls for wind gusting up to 50 km/h Thursday morning.

Things are looking up for the weekend with above-zero temperatures, with a high of 3 C on Saturday and 2 C on Sunday.

For GO Transit, Lakeshore train lines are on Sunday schedule; all other routes are on Saturday schedule.
