Today’s weather will have some students reaching for their sleds (or their snooze buttons): all Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board schools are closed on Monday.
Catholic school kids, you’re not so lucky. Catholic schools are open, but buses aren’t running. Exams are also cancelled for the day.
The weather is also causing problems at McMaster University. Power has been restored in most west campus buildings and the university is open after an earlier outage. Power is back on in Mary Keyes, Matthews, Moulton Hall, Wallingford and Bates residences and in the Refectory, and Alumni House. The power is still out at the McMaster Children's Centre, where there is also flooding. The Children's Centre will remain closed until at least noon today.
The power is still out at the Central Services Building, Applied Dynamics building and T-26. Generators are expected on site shortly.
Classes are on and the campus is open at Mohawk College in Hamilton, but classes at the Brantford campus have been cancelled.
There are no cancellations or closures for any City of Hamilton recreation programs or facilities this morning. Garbage collection is going ahead as scheduled.
Because of slippery conditions, GO Bus routes are delayed up to 30 minutes this morning. These delays are expected to continue, and maybe worsen during rush hour and traffic begins to build.
There are some issues on slippery roads this morning:
- A two-vehicle collision on Highway 6 just north of Parkside Drive in Flamborough. OPP reports people are trapped and an ambulance is enroute.
- Hamilton police are also reporting collisions on roads in Hamilton. Police are advising you to give yourself extra time to get to where you need to be this morning.
It’s a chilly -15 C in Hamilton this morning. Periods of light snow are expected ending early in the morning, then a mix of sun and cloud with 40 percent chance of flurries.
Watch out for local blowing snow – there’s a 30 km/h wind out of the west gusting to 50 km/h. The temperature is expected to stay low into the afternoon with a wind chill of -26 C.
