A former teacher at Westmount Secondary School faces a charge of sexual exploitation in connection with an “offence involving a female student,” police say.

Officers arrested a 32-year-old Oakville man Thursday in an incident that was reported in January, Hamilton police said in a Friday statement.

The arrest took place in Hamilton, said police spokeswoman Debbie McGreal-Dinning.

She wouldn't comment on the nature of the allegations, but said they stem from a single incident.

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board fired the teacher earlier this year after an internal probe into the allegations, said board spokeswoman Jackie Penman.

The accused was held for a Friday bail hearing.

Police ask any other possible victims to contact Det. Joanne Cain of the sexual assault unit at 905-540-5544.
