Firefighters used an aerial ladder to battle a top-storey fire in a Hamilton apartment building Tuesday evening.

At 5:30 p.m., firefighters were called to the 93 Emerald St. S. apartments, where a "well involved" fire burned in the building's fifth-floor locker room, said Hamilton Fire spokesperson Claudio Mostacci. Firefighters used the aerial ladder to put out the flames "fairly quickly," he said, and prevented the fire from spreading to any of the residents' apartments.

There were no injuries and the fire caused $5,000 in total damages, including some of the residents' belongings that were stored in the locker room, said Mostacci.

Fire crews finished and cleared the area by 6:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is still undetermined, said Mostacci.
