A firefighter was injured while fighting a blaze at a Hamilton storage yard Wednesday.

The firefighter went to hospital with a leg injury after battling a fire at American Iron and Metal LP around 3 p.m.

Crews were called to 75 Windermere Rd. after reports of heavy smoke and fire.

The fire started in a pile of scrap material. The materials were primarily refrigerators, stoves and other household metal products. The Ministry of Environment also responded to the scene.
