A dump truck rollover in downtown Hamilton has traffic snarled in the core.

Just after 11 a.m., a Budget Environmental dump truck toppled over on Wilson Street near the corner of James Street, sending debris cascading into the street. Police say the load in the back of the truck wasn't secured properly, causing it to fall over.

The truck's driver was able to get out and wasn't injured, police say. Diesel fluid and pieces of wood that were in the back of the truck are being cleaned by city crews.

City staffers on scene say the mess likely won't be clear until at least 4 p.m. The Eastbound lanes of Wilson Street at James Street have been closed.

The truck driver has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with operating a commercial motor vehicle with the load not secured as prescribed.
