Drunk driving suspect found with loaded handgun: police
A 21-year-old Stoney Creek man is facing drunk driving and weapons charges after he was pulled over by police on Monday.
At 3:28 p.m., emergency dispatchers received a tip about a red Volkswagen Jetta driving the wrong way on Forest Avenue near Catharine Street South, in central Hamilton.
Officers found the vehicle a short while later and found that the driver “showed signs of impairment,” police said in a Tuesday news release.
When police arrested the driver, they allegedly found a loaded .22-calibre handgun in his possession.
Officers confiscated the gun and took the suspect to the police station for a breath test.
Police say he blew over the legal blood-alcohol limit. He was then held in custody for a bail hearing.
A 21-year-old Stoney Creek man has been charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, careless transport of a concealed weapon, and tampering with the serial number of a firearm, as well as impaired driving.
