A man charged with drunk driving tried – unsuccessfully – to run away from Hamilton cops.
Officers stopped a vehicle around 12:30 a.m. Saturday at Rennie Street and Parkdale Avenue North for a routine traffic stop. The driver showed signs of having consumed alcohol and was given a roadside test. He failed, and was arrested, police said in a release.
But when officers tried to escort the man into the police cruiser, he ran away. Officers went after the man on foot and eventually caught him and took him to the police station.
The driver blew two times the legal limit during a breathalyzer test, police said. Officers also found out the man's license was suspended.
The 39-year-old Hamilton man was charged with over 80 mg and escaping lawful custody. He was released on a promise to appear in court.
