About 150 people converged on Gore Park Friday afternoon as part of the One Billion Rising Campaign.

The worldwide event took place across 207 countries on Feb. 14, calling for an end to violence against women and girls.

With cheers, music and laughter in the background, the predominantly female crowd came out to call for women's rights.

"The only we can do this is to come together. For men, women and children to see that nobody is alone," said Dora Anie, a member of Zonta Club of Hamilton 2 at the event.

"Our goal is to fight violence against women. We all rise and shine and support each other."
