Coyote warning at Hamilton Conservation Authority park
Hamilton Conservation Authority has a warning for hikers and pet owners
The Hamilton Conservation Authority is warning hikers and pet owners near the Eramosa Karst Conservation Area to avoid the area as a coyote in the area has become protective of its territory.
The warning is also directed to dog owners, as the HCA warns that canines are seen as threats to a coyotes' territory.
"At times the wildlife in our conservation areas need space from people and their pets," said Gord Costie, director of customer service for the HCA. "(We're) asking hikers and especially dog walkers to avoid the area for now and let wildlife feel safe in their home. ”
Located in the south-west area of Stoney Creek, Eramosa Karst has underground caves and streams. The area in question is in the northern half of the park along the yellow and orange trails, between the Pottruff Homestead and Nexus Cave.
