Thursday crash at Upper James and Airport Road causes major traffic headaches

One person was transported to hospital after a mobile crane collided with a car at Upper James Street and Airport Road.

The crash, which crushed the sedan, happened just before 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Fire department spokesperson Claudio Mostacci said it took firefighters “quite a while” to remove the driver from the vehicle.

“We had to cut the vehicle apart to remove the patient,” he said.

Paramedics then rushed the victim to hospital.

The collision caused traffic jam that lasted into the evening.

Just before 6 p.m., CBC Hamilton’s web developer, Kevin Gamble, was stuck in a traffic snarl created by the accident. He said vehicles were “jam-packed” on Upper James in the area of Airport Road and on Highway 6 into Mount Hope.
