A cold weather continues Thursday afternoon, and we're expecting snow.

Environment Canada is calling for flurries starting Thursday evening, continuing overnight and during the day Friday. And, it will be cold.

With the wind chill, it feels like -20 C Thursday afternoon. Did you know that's cold enough to kill a pine beetle but not Hamilton's ash-tree-killing emerald ash borer in one of its stages of development after birth? Now you know.

Its -10 C without the windchill

Hamilton's medical officer of health issues a cold alert whenever the temperature drops to or below -15 C, or feels like -20 C or below.

Agencies that work with homeless or vulnerable people have been notified of the alert by the city and will implement their cold weather procedures.

The alert will stay in place until the medical officer cancels it.

Friday is expected to be cold, but not quiet as cold as Thursday. The winds will be lighter and the high is - 5 C.
