The Claremont access to the Hamilton Mountain will be closed on Saturday and Sunday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., the city has said.

Crews will be doing rock-scaling work on the escarpment. The road closure "is required due to the potential for falling debris associated with this work," the city said in a statement on its website.

In February 2012, a retaining wall lining the access fell down, sending rocks cascading onto the road. The downbound lanes were closed for several days as city crews cleaned up the damage. No one was hurt.

According to the city, tree roots, vegetation and moisture built up behind the wall and weakened the barrier, causing the collapse.
