Hamilton police are searching for a man they say robbed an east end bank in the middle of the day Tuesday — but then dropped some of the stolen cash when he fell off his getaway bike.

A man walked into the Scotiabank at 1255 Barton St. E just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, said he had a gun and demanded money, police say. No gun was seen.

He left the bank, jumped on a bicycle and rode off, police say. A second call then came in to police a short time later that a man matching the suspect description from the robbery had collided with a yellow parking pole at a nearby restaurant and dropped cash at the scene.

The suspect then got back on his bike and took off, police say.

The man is described as a white man in his early 40s, around five foot nine inches tall, with a thin build and short, brown, thinning hair. He was wearing a dark hoodie and a dark shirt.
