A lower city home was gutted by fire today, officials say, forcing its occupants out of their home.
Fire crews rushed to 97 Beechwood Avenue, near Tim Hortons Field, around 12:06 p.m. this afternoon.
Firefighters arrived to see flames shooting out of the roof, and heavy smoke billowing throughout the home, according to a news release from the fire department.
The people who lived in the home had already managed to get out.
Fire crews turned their hoses on the flames and managed to put it out, as well as keep it from spreading to other homes, fire officials say.
"The cause of this fire has not yet been determined however it is not considered suspicious and there were no reported injuries to the occupants of the home," a Hamilton fire news release reads.
Damage to the three-storey home is being described as "extensive," and has been estimated at around $250,000.
The homeowner was doing renovations on the third floor, Hamilton Fire says, calling the cause "accidental."
"The occupants have made arrangements for alternate accommodation as the home is uninhabitable at this time."
