One person was injured with burns to the arms after a fire broke out in an apartment above a garage on Green Mountain Road Friday evening.

The person was treated on scene by Hamilton Paramedic Services. The other person who was at the home was not injured.

Hamilton Fire says when firefighters arrived, there was a "heavy fire with flames showing from the windows." The fire was extinguished eventually, after causing roughly $75,000 in damages.

The apartment was part of a detached two-storey structure at the back of a home in an area of Hamilton where there were no fire hydrants, said spokesperson Claudio Mostacci, adding that crews had to bring in tanker trucks.

It appears that the fire had started in the kitchen and living quarters.
