'Amazing Race Canada' contestant cries tears of joy to learn he got into McMaster med school
'To find out in the middle of the leg is just unbelievable. I’m so happy,' contestant says
Hamilton fans of the show "Amazing Race Canada" learned Tuesday night they'll soon have a contestant living nearby:
In the episode that aired Tuesday, Sam Lambert and his partner Paul Mitskopoulos watched on a tablet in Corner Brook, N.L., as Sam's parents delivered the news that he'd gotten in to medical school at McMaster University.
"To find out in the middle of the leg is just unbelievable. I'm so happy," Lambert said.
Taped this spring, the stunt was set up so that teams would get their next clue in the race from a family member over a tablet, handed to them inside a bank in Corner Brook, N.L.
Lambert got an emotion-evoking bonus when his mom said:
"We know how much you've sacrificed this past year to follow your dream," his mom, Karey, said. "And today I am honoured and beyond proud to confirm your acceptance at the medical school of your first choice."
(McMaster University helpfully tweeted Wednesday he'd be joining their medical school class this year.)
Lambert burst into tears, took a moment to hug Mitskopoulos and then wiped his eyes.
There was a race to continue.
"OK, can we go?" he said.
