Youth agency loses computers, recording gear in theft
The iHuman Youth Society is re-grouping Monday after a break-in over the weekend.
Culprits broke into the building at 102A Avenue and 96th Street and stole computers and recording equipment Friday. Some artwork was also damaged.
Some of the artwork is now lost, which will devastate the young artists, said iHuman executive director Catherine Broomfield.
"Any artist who's ever lost any piece of work they've been working on...knows what it's like when you've created something that you think's very powerful and then you lose that," she said.
"For some of the youth it will be traumatic."
The stolen items are covered by insurance, Broomfield said.
iHuman uses the arts to mentor and build trust with hundreds of young people who are at risk of substance abuse and crime who can't or won't get help elsewhere.
