Young girl in hospital after being hit by ETS bus
A young girl will have to have surgery on her leg after being hit by an Edmonton Transit bus this morning.
Police say it happened just after 8 a.m. at Rutherford Road and 16A Avenue.
They say the 11 year old girl was getting onto the bus behind a crowd of people when the door began to close and the vehicle pulled away.
She became trapped in the door and was dragged approximately 15 metres, in view of the 30 passengers on the bus.
"Part of her body was inside the bus and the driver not knowingly closed the doors and proceeded to pull away," said EPS Constable Rohitas Chandra.
"After driving a short distance away, some of the people on the bus realised an incident had just occurred and the bus driver pulled over immediately."
The girl then managed to free herself, but the bus ran over her left leg.
Chandra says she was taken to hospital. While her injuries are not life-threatening, she requires surgery on her leg.
The driver of the bus has 30 year of experience. Edmonton Transit says it is investigating the incident.
