Warrant issued after squatters take over cabins in Grande Prairie area

Police are searching for a 38-year-old woman following the arrest of so-called Freeman on the Land in northern Alberta last week.

The woman was to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court Wednesday to face several charges under the Public Land's Act and Forestry Act — including occupying public land and refusal to leave —  but failed to show up.

Last week, a man believed to be the woman's accomplice was charged after trappers said their remote cabins southeast of Grande Prairie had been occupied.

The man, who remains in jail after being denied bail, faces criminal charges including uttering threats, using a firearm in the commission of an offence and a new charge of unsafe storage of a firearm.

At the time of his arrest, police seized two long guns and ammunition.
