A 23-year-old woman is dead after a shooting at Edmonton's Stadium LRT station Friday night.
Acting Insp. Ken Hykawy said police responded to reports of gunshots at the station, near 112 Avenue and 85 Street, at about 10:20 p.m. MT.
He said officers found the young woman on the ground near the 112 Avenue entrance with "significant head trauma." She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say it's believed the woman was involved in a brief conversation or confrontation with a man when he pulled out a gun and shot her. The victim collapsed, while the suspect fled the area.
The suspect is described as a male between 16 and 21 years old, about five feet 10 inches tall and weighing around 160 pounds. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and a baseball cap.
Hykawy said there were at least six witnesses and there is surveillance video at the station that will be seized as evidence.
He said police believe they have identified the woman, but her name will not be released until relatives have been notified.
It's Edmonton's seventh homicide of the year and the third in the past week. Anyone with information is asked to call Edmonton police at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
