Woman robbed of winnings after leaving Edmonton casino
Strathcona RCMP are looking for two men accused of following a woman home from a casino and robbing her.
The 59-year-old woman had won a significant amount of money at a south Edmonton casino on Dec. 24, police say.
She put the money in her purse and left the casino in her vehicle, driving back to her home in Sherwood Park.
When she pulled into her driveway, she was approached by two men who demanded her money. When she hesitated, one of the men grabbed her and forced her to hand over the purse.
The men, one thought to be in their late teens, fled before the woman called 911.
Const. Darren Anderson of the Strathcona County RCMP says this is a rare occurrence.
"Fortunately we don't hear of this that often. I can't think in recent memory of a similar occurrence," he said.
"But at the same point, we need people to just be aware of their surroundings when they're returning home from a casino. Ideally if you could go in pairs, if you could go to the casino with somebody else."
Police will not say how much money was taken.
