Woman killed on Alberta highway
A 44-year-old Grande Prairie woman died near Hythe, Alta. Tuesday when she was hit by a pickup truck while making a cell phone call as she stood on the highway.
The woman's pickup truck went off Highway 43 around 5 p.m., likely due to slippery road conditions, police said. She had her back turned to oncoming traffic while talking on her phone, and didn't hear the honking of the driver of an approaching pickup.
The man tried to avoid her but couldn't stop in time.
The woman was taken to hospital in nearby Beaverlodge where she died of her injuries.
RCMP are still investigating the crash.
