A woman was struck by an Edmonton Transit bus Friday morning in downtown Edmonton.

Witnesses say the woman darted into traffic on 102nd Avenue adjacent to City Centre Mall at about 11 a.m.

She was hit by a bus pulling away from the bus stop, said Sarah Amero.

"I saw the woman jaywalking across the street and then she hit the left side of the bus and flew down onto the ground," she said.

"I booked it across the street to tend her. I held her down and I was trying to pet her and calm her down, but she didn't know English so she didn't understand what I was saying."

The woman was taken to hospital, but her condition is not known.
