A man wearing a blue ski mask attacked a woman near the University of Alberta early Sunday morning.

Police say the assault occurred near 111th Street and 82nd Avenue around 3:30 a.m.

The 26-year-old woman was walking home from work when a man struck her in the face from behind. She fell to the ground and the man started choking her.

The man briefly left the area, which allowed the woman to escape into the lobby of her apartment building. That’s when the man showed up and started banging on the window.

She called police after she got into her apartment.

Police have few details about her attacker -- he is described as being 6 feet tall and wearing a blue ski mask.

There have been 16 attacks on women near Whyte Avenue since early last year.
