A 19-year-old woman is dead after a collision Thursday on Edmonton's Yellowhead Trail.

Her vehicle was travelling west at 11:43 a.m. when it crossed the centre median into eastbound traffic and was struck by a transport truck, police said.

The force of the collision pushed the small car back into the westbound lanes. The young woman was wearing a seat belt, but died at the scene.

The truck driver was unharmed.

The accident closed Yellowhead Trail eastbound between 107th Street and 121st Street, and westbound between 97th Street and 121st Street until late afternoon.

Motorists are being cautioned about the slippery roads caused by the recent snowfall and rising temperatures.
