Edmonton police are looking for witnesses in a severe beating of a 25-year-old man found on a street in the Beacon Heights neighbourhood.

A passing motorist reported seeing the man laying on a curb near 121st Avenue near 41st Street at about 11 p.m. Thursday.

Originally believed to be a victim of a hit and run, police came to believe his injuries were consistent with those from a beating.

The man is in hospital in critical but stable condition.

Police want to speak with anyone in a dark maroon or green 1990s Dodge Caravan with damage to the rear passenger side bumper which was reported driving west on 121st Avenue and turning north on 42nd Street, police said.

"We believe there were a number of motorists passing through the area at that time and we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen anything that didn’t seem right or may have been suspicious," said Det. Kurt Martin.
