An Edmonton tattoo parlour has been shut down because of unsanitary practices, Alberta Health Services announced Thursday.

Zipp's Tattoo Parlour and Museum on Whyte Avenue and 100th Street was closed immediately after the provincial health authority became aware of the operator's practices.

The business was not following standard sterilization practices for reusable instruments and other safety precautions, Dr. Gerry Predy, medical officer of health with Alberta Health Services, said Thursday in a news release.

Health officials encouraged anyone tattooed or pierced at Zipp's to get tested for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.
