Man dead after single-vehicle collision on Whitemud Drive

A section of Whitemud Drive was closed for several hours Monday morning after a man died in a single-vehicle collision.

A section of Whitemud Drive was closed for several hours Monday morning after a man died in a single-vehicle collision.

Police say a car hit a concrete barrier while driving west on Whitemud Drive around 4 a.m. near 149th Street.

The male driver was thrown from the vehicle and the car caught fire. The man died at the scene.

Speed is believed to have been a factor in the collision, police say.

​The charred vehicle remained on the shoulder of Whitemud Drive on Monday morning.

The westbound lanes of Whitemud Drive from Fox Drive to 149th Street were closed for several hours as police investigated the collision.

Commuters were being asked to avoid the area.

Those lanes have since reopened.
