Wetaskiwin tattoo artists ordered to cease operations
Alberta Health Services has shut down a tattoo company that operated without approval in Wetaskiwin, Leduc and possibly other parts of central Alberta.
Darren Kennaway and Tom Kennedy, the two operators of Loki's Haven Tattoos, have been ordered under the Public Health Act to immediately cease all operations.
AHS is also advising anyone who received a tattoo from this company to get tested for blood-borne diseases.
"Because these operators did not have proper sterilization processes in place, all individuals who received tattoos from them, in any location, may have been exposed to viruses such as Hepatitis B and C, and HIV," said Dr. Digby Horne, Medical Officer of Health, AHS Central Zone, in a news release.
Loki's Haven Tattoos advertised on Facebook and operated at 5414 - 55 Avenue in Wetaskiwin as well as in private residences in Wetaskiwin and Leduc. They may have worked in other homes in central Alberta, AHS said.
Health officials believe Kennaway and Kennedy had been operating for at least two years.
Anyone who needs a test can call AHS at 403-356-6420.
