Edmonton commuters received some good news Wednesday, with the city announcing that Walterdale Hill Road will reopen to traffic one month ahead of schedule.

The road was closed due to the $155 million Walterdale Bridge replacement project and caused traffic congestion on 109th Street and Saskatchewan Drive.

The closure was supposed to remain in effect until Aug. 4,  but will now reopen by 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Crews will spend the summer finishing construction of concrete blocks that will support the bridge arches. The new bridge is scheduled to open by late 2015.

Construction on the new Walterdale Bridge is now expected to be complete by the fall of 2015. (City of Edmonton )
