An Edmonton group is trying to recruit volunteers to help bring back a camp for underprivileged youth.

Organizers' efforts to bring back Camp Boysdale continued this weekend with help from past campers.

Although it has been 40 years since he attended the camp, Jeff Karvokeres has fond memories of the place.

"I remember the camp fire, hikes and building lean-tos and going on an overnight hike," Karvokeres said.

Edmonton City Coun. Tony Catarina was also a camp councilor at Boysdale.

"I think it would be a great asset to Edmonton and the surrounding area for that camp to start over again," Catarina said.

Organizers like Dave Calhoon are trying to do just that, but they say there is still a lot to be done.

"We have a goal of $1 million and right now we’re sitting at $54,000 so the need is more than ever now, because I’ve got until the end of October to get this done."

A fundraiser is planned for next month as one last attempt to acquire enough donations to have the camp open next season.
