The city is planning a major makeover for Victoria Park, with plans to include a new pavilion and other improvements in the popular river valley spot.
The $3-million curved pavilion, to be built to the northwest of the skating oval, will provide a gathering space for skaters. It will also house the offices of the Edmonton Speed Skating Association, as well as mechanical rooms and storage.
The project has been in the works for more than a year, but the city had to determine if it would have any environmental impact in the river valley. It found that the area was not environmentally-sensitive.
City Council will vote on the plan Wednesday. If it is approved, construction is expected to begin next month.
