Use of Taser on man who later died found lawful by ASIRT
ASIRT concludes investigation into arrest in Edmonton last October
Edmonton Police acted lawfully when they used a Taser stun gun on 39-year-old man who later died in hospital, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has concluded.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Oct. 24, 2013 when police tried breaking up a fight between a man and a woman at 106A Avenue and 96th Street.
Officers used the Taser on the man three times while the man was resisting arrest.
He went into medical distress and was taken to hospital. He died six days later.
ASIRT investigated the incident and decided the actions of the officers were lawful and justified.
No criminal charges will be laid.
